Welcome to the Hunter LEAP Short course: Caping for a shoulder mount.
There are many ways to prepare a cape for taxidermy. These skills are essential to preserving a cape and can only be mastered through practice. Once you’ve completed the course, we recommend you attend a face-to-face course through an Accredited Hunter LEAP Provider to perfect your techniques.

This course is divided into six units and a multiple choice quiz. At the end of the course, our trainers will have provided you with the necessary knowledge for you to be able to:

  • Understand the basics of taxidermy
  • Safely complete the caping process
  • Assemble your tools
  • Make the initial body cuts and remove the skin
  • Split the lips, nose and eyes
  • Salt and dry the cape
